5 Tips How Women Can Make Time For Themselves

Women are busy creatures by nature. Instead of having it all, women are doing it all — raising kids, running a household, working, contributing to the local community, caring for ailing parents, and many more. If you check your schedule, you’ll be exhausted just by reading it. It’s just difficult to catch a break if you’re a working mom, especially if you’re a single mom managing all of these by yourself with no help from a partner.

When you’re riding a plane, flight attendants instruct all passengers that during an emergency, you should take your oxygen mask first before helping your family or friends with you. If you ran out of oxygen, how could you help others? Same idea should be observed in your day-to-day life.

To help you create a quality “me” time despite all the chaos, here are 5 tips on how you can make time for yourself:

 

1. Change your mindset.

Appreciate the fact that you have to take care of yourself. It’s not a voluntary act, it is a must.  It’s important to take care for yourself first before you take care of others. It sounds selfish but in reality, it’s not.

Psychiatrist Dr. Gail Saltz says there’s a big difference between being selfish in a bad way and being selfish in a healthy way and it’s a tough concept for women to recognize.

If you succumb to illness due to stress, postponing health appointments, or disregarding pain, every one that you’re taking care of will go also down with you.

 

2. Set time for yourself.

You may claim, “Oh, but I don’t have the time for myself!” But, you can carve a time within a day to spend for yourself. It just takes some will power and discipline to follow your new schedule.

Set aside 15-30 minutes every single day for some quality time for you. Challenge yourself to commit to this new schedule for a month and this “me” time will become a daily habit for you in the future.

 

3. Do one thing that you love doing by yourself.

What is the one thing that you enjoy doing?

No thoughts of children (it’s hard, I know), no husband, no work, no meeting, no report, nothing. It can be reading a good book, taking a luxurious bath, meditating, working out, walking around the neighborhood, visiting a spa, anything that you could do alone for yourself, do it. You deserve it!

 

4. Delegate.

Are you a YES person? Do you say yes to every task given to you? Well, now is the time to make a shift and learn how to say no and delegate tasks. There are many people around you whom you could assign to do certain things may it be at home or at work. It’s ok to ask someone else’s help.

 

5. Start now.

With all the tips you can find about how to make time for yourself, it will come to nothing if you don’t start today. Not tomorrow, not next month, not in January when the year is new, do these changes now. Don’t wait till things slow down. Things will never slow down, instead, you have to slow them down.
