1. Tax Exemptions For Military & Vehicle Registration

All military members, reservists, veterans and retirees qualify for a tax exemption on their real estate and automobiles. The exemption amount is based status, which can be found at the following link. The information isn't always clear, you can call (702) 455-3882 with any questions: Clark County Gov Website Exemption Page

* The exemption can be split between your automobile and property (not to exceed the total of the exemption). To apply your exemption to your property tax bill for 1 July, you must return the exemption form by 15 June, or for property purchased between 15 June and 1 July, the exemption form must be returned by 5 July.

If you miss those dates, you won't be able to use the exemption until the following year.

Active Duty Members Requirements to Claim Exemption - This form and a copy of a Leave Earnings Statement (LES) showing the home state is one other than Nevada and is dated within the previous 30-days; these must be presented during each registration period. Confidential information may be blacked out on the LES. If the exemption is being claimed by mail, the LES will not be returned. Active Duty Military Tax Exemption Affidavit

Form VP-203S is to be used only for spouses of servicemembers claiming exemption from Nevada’s Governmental Services Tax requirement for the vehicle listed below because they meet the conditions set forth under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, as amended by the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act (Public Law 111-97). When you record a Declaration of Homestead, Nevada law protects the equity in your home up to $605,000 from general creditor claims (unpaid medical bills, bankruptcy, charge card debts, business/personal loans, accidents) but would not preclude a seizure or forced sale of your residence from general creditors if your equity exceeds the $605,000. 5. Base Information

There are two military bases in the Las Vegas area. Nellis AFB is located in Clark County Nevada, approximately 8 miles northeast from downtown Las Vegas. Creech AFB is located in Indian Springs about 30 miles northwest of Las Vegas and 50 miles west/northwest of Nellis AFB. The following links are available for your convenience:

Las Vegas attracts 43 million visitors annually. Crime rates in the metropolitan area are the same or lower than in other cities of comparable size. Clark County's population is 2 million people and climbing. Since Nellis is the most exclusive and guarded community in Las Vegas, on-base crime is significantly lower than off-base.
